چکیده

The present study investigated the relationship between working memory capacity and second language (L2) reading comprehension. In addition, the relationship between WM components and reading comprehension dimensions in L2 was explored. Furthermore, the relationship between the storage and processing components of WM was examined. 103 participants from Bu-Ali Sina University, Hamedan, Iran, selected through convenience sampling procedure took part in the study. Data were collected through a reading span task and a reading comprehension measure. The results of the correlational analyses revealed that there was no significant correlation between WMC and L2 reading comprehension composite scores and no significant correlation between WMC components and L2 reading comprehension dimensions. However, the results revealed that there was a significant negative correlation between the storage and processing components of WMC, and this negative correlation was even stronger for the lower-capacity participants, providing support for the time-based resource sharing model of WM.
