Bone char is a solid phosphorus rich food waste derived sustainable mesoporous material which is produced by the under controlled thermal conditions of animal bones [1]. Recently the mesoporous bone char has gained considerable attention owing to with excellent features such as large surface areas, very low cost, ease of preparation and biocompatibility [2]. In this work, bone char nanoparticles were prepared from pyrolysis of bone char and functionalization with 3-aminopropyl-triethoxsysilane then sulfonation supported with chlorosulfonic acid as reusable and environmental biocatalyst. The modified bone char as Bronsted acid catalyst was characterized by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDS and BET techniques. The modified bone char showed excellent catalytic activity for the synthesis of pyrimidine-5-carbonitrile derivatives (Scheme).
