Toxocara vitulorum is a small intestinal nematode of cattle and buffalo with global distribution. Adult worms are up to 30 cm long. Infection is often reported in calves with weight loss, anorexia, emaciation, presence of fat in feces, and cloudy diarrhea. So far, there have been a few reports of Toxocara vitulorum from Iran and mostly from the calves of cows and buffaloes in the northwest of the country. In this article, a severe infection of a cow calf with this parasite is reported. On 07/05/1400, a 5-day-old female calf with an approximate weight of 20 kg was referred to the veterinary clinic, located in Sahne city, Kermanshah province, with signs of lethargy, heartache, and severe depression. The body temperature, breathing rate and rhythm were normal, but the heart rate was increased, although the rhythm was normal. In the examination of the digestive tract, a moaning and pain reaction was observed in the calf. In order to refer to the veterinarian for a visit outside the city, the calf was placed in the clinic for 8 hours, but before that, Levamisole was taken at the rate of 7.5 mg per kilogram of body weight. After the veterinarian returned to the clinic, a large number of Toxocara vitulorum worms, 10 to 27 cm long, were observed along with diarrheal feces. Although it has been more than 20 years since the last report of infection in Iran, it seems that the parasite is still scattered in some parts of the country, so epidemiological studies are suggested to determine the frequency and geographical distribution of the parasite.
