Trichuris is one of the most common gastrointestinal nematodes found in the cecum and colon of small ruminants around the world. In severe infections, it causes anemia and emaciation, even causing the death of the animal. Studies in the field of Iranian Trichuris species identification is scarce, and given the country's diverse climate across different regions, it is important to conduct a study on the prevalence of various Trichuris species in small ruminants across different geographic locations in Iran. The objective of present study is to determine the prevalence of Trichuris species in small ruminants residing in various regions of Ira d to identify potential species diversity based on the morphological characteristics. From Jul 22- Feb 2023, 1100 cecum and colon of sheep/goat slaughtered at slaughterhouses in various regions of Iran including: Hamedan, Tehran, East and West Azerbaijan, Kerman, Sistan and Baluchestan, Mazandaran, Hormozgan, Fars and Zanjan provinces were inspected. The collected male and female Trichuris nematodes were examined based on morphology and morphometrey overall percentage of infection was 31 % and the overall mean worm burden was 4 per animal Trichuris skrjabini and Trichuris ovis were identified in all provinces and Trichuris globulosa was identified in Kerman province. Identifying of Trichuris nematodes is complicated due to the high degree of similarity between different species. Some Trichuris species may have such high similarities with each other that their differences are hard to discern.
