چکیده The magnetite CuFe-layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanocomposite was synthesized, characterized and used in the persulfate (Ps) activation while exposing to visible light. The target pollutant was the Rhodamine 6G (Rh6G) brilliant dye with versatile applications. Accordingly, the effects of different operating parameters were studied, introducing the mild optimal conditions of the Ps concentration of about 100 mg/L, the LDH dosage of about 10 mg/L, and the solution natural pH of 6.2. Under these conditions, degradation and COD removal of 72.1 and 63.3% were achieved in 40 min. Meanwhile, a perfect decolorization was corresponding after only 30 min, confirming preference for the process. Pseudo second order overall reaction rates were relevant to degradation for the alternative processes. Furthermore, regeneration of the LDH particles in five consecutive cycles was feasible with no substantial change in the activity. The retarding effect of present anions in water sources was also investigated. Additionally, the contribution of involved oxidants species were recognized by adding scavengers, and the degradation pathway was proposed based on LC–MS analysis. Finally, energy consumption and cost analysis were evaluated for the process. The findings help to improve treatment of dyestuff wastewaters.
