In Analytical Chemistry, the primary function of a nebulizer is to convert a liquid solution into an aerosol for introduction into the instrumental technique. For decades, nebulizer devices have been the subject of continuous research in several studies, obtaining a wide range of types of nebulizers. Taking advantage of the advances in nebulizer technology is particularly meaningful in analytical techniques in which higher sensitivity, lower analysis times, and lower sample consumption are desired. For instance, recent advances in nebulizer technology demonstrate significant potential for the development of cutting-edge applications such as single-particle and single-cell inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.
