This study investigated the effect of prosodic awareness training at word and at sentence level on performance of interpreter trainees in their interpretation. In line with the objectives of the research, students majoring in English translation and interpreting were decided to make up the two control and the experimental groups of the research. Thirty of the students were chosen randomly with 14 male and 16 female students. A simple random sampling procedure was em-ployed. The selected members were then divided into two groups each including 7 male and 8 female participants. Systematic random sampling was employed in this case. One of these groups was considered the control group, which received routine instruction in interpreting (i.e. placebo). The other was considered the experimental one, which received awareness training on prosodic features of English to practice in interpreting. The result of this study showed that interpreter trainees have better performance if they have conscious knowledge of stress at word and at sentence level. Statistical analysis of the data showed that awareness knowledge of stress at word and at sentence level would have more contributions on interpreter trainees’ performance especially on the variables of accent, pace and voice.
