چکیده Abstract Nanotechnology is an important part of technology which offers a great chance to develop new therapeutic agents for treatment of microbial infections in particular those caused by drug-resistant bacteria. The purpose of the present study was to synthesize enrofloxacinencapsulated polymeric nanoparticles and compare its antibacterial activity with pure enrofloxacin. Material and Methods: Enrofloxacin-encapsulated polymeric nanoparticles were prepared using Chitosan as a polymer and tripolyphosphate as cross linking agent. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS) method. The antibacterial effects of the nanoparticles were evaluated using broth micro-dilution against B. cereus according to the CLSI manual 2012. Results: The drug-encapsulated nanoparticles had an average size of 39.84 nm. These nanoparticles indicated antibacterial activity against B. cereus. They also displayed stronger antibacterial activity than the nano-carrier alone (Chitosan) or pure enrofloxacin antibiotic. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the nano-encapsulated Enrofloxacin molecules against the bacterial species was 60 ng/ml. Conclusion: The results suggest that enrofloxacin encapsulation in polymer nanoparticles has the potential to increase its antibacterial activity against B. cereus.
