In recent decades, attention has been paid to skilled and expert human capital as one of the key elements of production and economic progress. The development of human capital requires improvement and investment in the most important part of manpower production, namely higher education. The development of higher education in a country can be achieved through the development of expert and efficient forces that underpin business development and economic development. Higher education in agriculture in Iran has faced different challenges over the past decades. Human resources, on the one hand, pay less attention to the merits and requirements for entry into the labor market, and on the other hand, less emphasis is given to skill-based education or competency-based training in the agricultural education system. Hence, in the curriculum of higher agricultural education, a learning-learning approach should be selected which, while improving the effectiveness of educational programs, can also prevent the increase in the cost of these programs. An approach based on merit seems to be one of the most effective approaches in this field. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to investigate and analyze the competency-based education in Iran's agricultural education system, which was carried out using a library method and documentary study. The results of the research indicate the role and importance of competency-based education in agricultural education system. In addition to traditional practices, education based on the competence of the country's higher education system leads the country to learner skills, flexibility, focus on standards, increase social responsibility, increase motivation among students.
