Background and Aim:Mycoplasmas are very small bacteria which lack a cell wall and therefore, resist the effects of antibiotics that affect the bacterial cell wall. About 20 Mycoplasma species have been detected in cattle. These bacteria exist all around the world and cause respiratory, ocular, mammary, articular, and urogenital infections in their host. Methods:This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of Mycoplasma infection in lung tissue samples from cattle slaughtered in Hamedan industrial abattoir in cold and warm seasons. A total of 93 lung samples were collected and whole DNA was extracted using commercial kits. After confirming the quality of the extracted DNA by agarose gel electrophoresis, all samples were tested by PCR using primers specific for the genus Mycoplasma. Results:Results showed that 4 (4/3%) out of 93 lung samples were infected with Mycoplasma. Conclusion:Based on the results of this study, mycoplasma infection exists in cattle population in the region, and the rate of infection is in agreement with reports from other countries.
