There are considerable studies on measuring poverty in Iran, most of which have focused on one-dimensional poverty that is, they have calculated and analyzed monetary dimension of poverty. So, the main objective of this paper is to measure multidimensional poverty index based on Alkire and Foster method; this methodology is supposed to be able to capture the intensity as well as the incidence of poverty in Hamedan’s Urban- Rural areas in three dimensions in nine indicators. The source of data of this study is the Household Expenditure and Income Surveys (HEIS) of March 20th 2013 to March 19th 2014, the Iranian solar year, issued by the Center of Statistics of Iran. .Results show that multidimensional poverty index of urban areas is equal with 0.0584 and it and that of rural areas is 0.0155. So, urban areas are identified obviously poorer than rural areas from the point of view of multidimensional poverty index. Also, headcount ratio in urban area is 13% and in rural area is 3%. Moreover, health has a greater share of the multidimensional poverty index in both urban and rural areas in the period of study and education has the second place, after health dimension.
