چکیده Xanthenes and benzoxanthenes are interesting classes of heterocycles which have different biological activities. These compounds exhibit wide range of pharmaceutical activities such as antibacterial,1 anti-inflammatory,2andantiviral3 properties. Some xanthene based compounds have found application as antagonists for inhibiting the action of zoxalamine, and in photodynamic therapy.4 In addition, they can be used as dyes,5 and pH sensitive fluorescent materials forvisualization of biomolecular assemblies.6 Xanthene derivatives can also be utilized in laser technology.7 In this investigation, we report a highly efficient solvent-free method for the synthesis of 12-aryl-8,9,10,12-tetrahydrobenzo[a]-xanthen-11-ones by the one-pot multi-component condensation of arylaldehydes with 2-naphthol using disulfonic acid imidazolium chloroaluminate {[Dsim]AlCl4}
