Considering energy consumption and environmental problems, man has been thinking of ways to reach a stable development, the one that does not put natural resources in danger as well as providing him with energy. Iran as a developing country needs to take action to satisfy this need and subsequent reducing energy consumption will lead to a promising future for the next generation. Green roof is one of the modern efficient technologies which leads to sustainable development. With advantages such as improving the air quality, reducing temperature and increasing humidity, conserving energy consumption, stepping towards new energies, decreasing warming and cooling expenses, and generally going along with nature, a green roof can be considered as a viable solution in construction of buildings and can lead to more sustainability in architecture and the environment in the long run in order to utilize clean energies and attend to the environment and its inhabitants. Examining these strategies, and introducing how they influence the environment, this article aims at studying the role of green roofs in reducing energy consumption and keeping a sustainable environment in Iran. A descriptive analytical approach is adopted and the results are presented as suggestions to improve the environment.
