چکیده Template Schiff-base condensation between dicarbonyl compounds and diamines are among the simplest and most popular methods for macrocycle synthesis [1]. The size and preferred coordination geometry of the metal ion control the structure of the condensation products [2]. In the present work , [1+1] cyclocondensation of 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarbaldehyde with 3- (4-(3-aminopropyl)piperazin-1-yl)propan-1-amine in the presence of Mn(II) and Cd(II) metal ions, (Fig. 1). The new Cd (II) and Mn(II) Schiff-base complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, Mass, IR and in the case of cadmium complex by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. In the IR spectrum of complex a band at about 1640 and 1631 cm-1 indicated the formation of C=N bonds, no peaks attributed to NH2 and carbonyl groups implied that the condensation reaction have been completed.
