Title Development of a high strength and ductile Nb-bearing dual phase steel by cold-rolling and intercritical annealing of the ferrite- martensite microstructures

Abstract Dual phase(DP)steelscontainingdifferentamountsofNbmicroalloyingelementwereproducedbycold- rolling followedbyintercriticalannealingofaferrite-martensiteduplexstartingstructure.Theeffectsof Nb contents(0.00,0.06,0.12and0.18wt%)andintercriticalannealingtimeonthemicrostructural evolutions andmechanicalpropertieswerestudied.Resultsfrommicroscopicimagesshowedthatin- creasing Nbcontentincreasedthevolumefractionofmartensiteanddecreasedtheaveragegrainsizeof ferrite. Tensileresultsillustratedanexcellentstrength-elongationbalanceintermsofenergyabsorption (160Jcm3) andtoughness(229MPa).Thelowestgrainsizeofabout1.4070.37 mmwasachievedinthe DP steelcontaining0.12wt%Nbwhosestrengthwasabout123%higherthanthatoftheas-received ferritic-pearlitic steel(e.g.540MPa),withoutlossofductility.Thevariationsofstrength,elongationand fracturemechanismofthespecimenswithNbcontentsandintercriticalannealingtimewerecorrelated to themicrostructuralfeatures
