Moreover, mathematics is learned as a service course by many students at university who they are not mathematics students. Mostly, their teachers are among those who completed their PhD in mathematics. It is hard for a mathematician to understand how to motivate a student who looks at mathematics as a service course. This study aims to consider how university teachers motivate different students from different disciplines? To this aim, data had gathered through semi- structured interviews with 27 university mathematics teachers in Iran and analyzed by coding and making themes. Data analysis revealed that university teachers should make connections between mathematics and students' disciplinary cultures to motivate them to learn mathematics at university.
