There are students who have to learn mathematics at university but do not have enough motivation. In Iran, such a population is growing and this interferes with mathematics teaching-learning. Therefore, this research will study this question: Why students are not motivated to learn mathematics? This is a qualitative study which its data is gathered from teaching experiences of the authors of this paper. They taught students with different majors in various universities. Data are analyzed through reflection and comparison. Based on this study, we can categorize the reasons for the lack of motivation to two main groups: worthlessness of mathematics learning and math anxiety.
