Title Hydrogen bonded organic framework as a smart powder bondage for wound healing
Type Presentation
Keywords Hydrogen-bonded organic framework, Metronidazole, Smart powder bandage
Abstract Cutaneous wounds pose a significant challenge for healthcare systems worldwide. Excess moisture often undermines the stability and sustained release of small molecules and peptides, reducing their therapeutic effectiveness[1, 2]. In this study, we introduce a hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOF) containing metronidazole as a novel smart powder bandage. This bandage demonstrates the ability to form hydrogel layers upon contact with wound exudate. It is also responsive to changes in temperature (> 37°C) and pH (>8),allowing for the localized release of metronidazole based on the specific conditions of the wound. The smart powder bandage (SPB) Was characterized using FT-IR, FE-SEM, and 'HNMR techniques, confirming the structure of the HOF and the encapsulation of metronidazole. The multifunctional smart powder bandage exhibited antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (500 µg mL.-¹).
