Abstract Abbott's research in 2003 led to what we call deep eutectic solvents (DES) [1]. DES is a mixture of two or three (often inexpensive and safe) with a high melting point are mixed and forms a eutectic compound with a lower melting point than each component [2]. DESs are considered green solvents due to properties such as being non-volatile, stable, non-flammable, and non-toxic. Barbituric acids are an important class of medically important pyrimidine derivatives. which is used as an anticonvulsant, sedative, antioxidant, antifungal, and blood pressure. It has recently been estimated that more than 70% of all drugs and agrochemicals have at least one heterocyclic ring in their structure [3]. Pyrano[2,3- d]pyrimidines consist of a pyran ring fused to a pyrimidine. As such, their main framework consists of both nitrogen and oxygen in their carbocyclic structure and has significant pharmacological properties, including cardiac, antitumor, bronchodilator, anti-bronchitis, and antihypertensive activities [4].In this project, a cheap, simple, and non-toxic method for the synthesis of pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidines derivatives was considered using a DES catalyst. The structure and properties of the DES catalyst were investigated by FT-IR, TGA/DTA, condensation, eutectic point, and 1 HNMR. Among the advantages presented by this study, we can mention the reaction in solvent-free conditions (reduction of pollution), short reaction time, high productivity, easy recycling and separation of the catalyst, as well as high selectivity.
