Title Improving the mechanical, tribological, and electrochemical behavior of AISI 304 stainless steel by applying CrN single layer and Cr/CrN multilayer coatings
Type JournalPaper
Keywords CAE-PVD Mechanical properties Tribological properties Cr/CrN multilayer Nanostructured coating
Abstract The purpose of this study was to assess the mechanical and tribological behavior of chromium nitride (CrN) single layer and multilayer nanostructured coatings of chromium/chromium nitride (Cr/CrN) applied on AISI 304 stainless steel to be used in a marine application. CrN and Cr/CrN coatings were performed using cathode arc evaporation a division of physical vapor deposition (CAE-PVD) method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) were utilized for phase identification of coatings and surface morphology, respectively. Nano-indentation method was used to investigate the mechanical behavior of coatings.
