Abstract The arrival of the Coronavirus in Iran confronts a highly centralized state, weakened by US sanctions, and an imaginative civil society to react and take initiatives. The transformations of traditional Iranian habitat are also not favorable for protection against contagion. Conversely, the crisis is accelerating changes in urban mobility (bicycle-sharing system) and transitions to the digital society.
