Abstract N-heteroaromatic structures particularly pyridine ring systems are ubiquitous in pharmaceutical active molecules and natural products. Among them, pyridine-3-carbonitrile derivatives represent fascinating biological characteristics. These compounds can apply as A2A adenosine receptor antagonists, IKK-β inhibitors, inhibitors of HIV-1 integrase, anti-microbial, anti-tumour, analgesic, anti-inlammatory, and antipyretic agents.1-3 Herein, we have developed a green, efficient and powerful protocol for the synthesis of pyridine-3-carbonitrile derivatives via a four- component reaction. The reaction was performed in the presence of a catalytic amount of nanomagnetic catalyst under reflux conditions (Figure 1). It is worthy to mention that the final step of the mechanistic pathway for the synthesis of target molecules has proceeded via a cooperative vinylogous anomeric based oxidation mechanism.
