Abstract A new leaf blight and fruit rot disease of strawberry caused by Curvularia spp. was found in Kurdistan province, Iran, in 2013. Symptoms appeared as small, brown to black, sunken lesions on fruits and brown to black spots with irregular borders on the leaves. Of the 40 isolates recovered from infected plants, 31 isolates were identified as belonging to the genus Curvularia , and pathogenicity of representative isolates was confirmed. The pathogenic isolates were identified as C. inaequalis and C. spicifera based on morphology and ITS rDNA (Internal Transcribed Spacer) sequence comparison. This is the first report of C. inaequalis and C. spicifera causing leaf blight and fruit rot disease on strawberry in Iran.
