Title Retroperitoneal Renal Approach in Dog; a Comparative Study
Type Presentation
Keywords Nephrectomy, Retroperitoneal approach, Dog.
Abstract Objective- The aim of the present study was to comparison between retroperitoneal and conventional midline approaches to kidney for retroperitoneal renal surgery (RPRS) in dog. The experimental part of the study should help in optimizing a good surgical access, vessel preparation and ligation during RPRS. Design- A retrospective study Animals- In this study eight retroperitoneal ureter resection and anastomoses and eight nephrectomies were performed and compared with five nephrectomies which were carried out by using ventral midline approach. Procedure- After the creation of retroperitoneal space, ureter resection and anastomosis was performed. Results- There was no incidence of complication during all operations; therefore conversion to classic approach was not performed. After one month, nephrectomy was performed and observations exploratory laparotomies revealed no peritoneal adhesion formation in all cases. Conclusions and Clinical Relevance- This study revealed that the retroperitoneal approach is shorter in operation time and incision length and facilitates access kidneys and proximal parts of ureters than ventral midline.
