Abstract This paperproposesanovelmethodtoaddressreliabilityandtechnicalproblemsofmicrogrids(MGs based ondesigninganumberofself-adequateautonomoussub-MGsviaadoptingMGsclustering thinking. Indoingso,amulti-objectiveoptimizationproblemisdevelopedwherepowerlossesreduc- tion, voltageprofile improvementandreliabilityenhancementareconsideredastheobjectivefunctions. Tosolvetheoptimizationproblemahybridalgorithm,namedHS-GA,isprovided,basedongeneticand harmonysearchalgorithms,andaload flowmethodisgiventomodeldifferenttypesofDGsasdroop controller.Theperformanceoftheproposedmethodisevaluatedintwocasestudies.Theresultsprovide support fortheperformanceoftheproposedmethod.
