High risk behaviour is one of the problems of the society which has weakened the foundation of the society in recent years and capital costs have been spent for fighting, treatment, and the damages. The objective of this research was to study the relationship between high risk behaviours and mental health among the students at Bu-Ali Sina University in the academic year of 2012- 2013. In this correlational study, 330 students (169 males and 161 females) were selected from among 15500 students of Bu-Ali Sina University using simple random sampling. For the data collection purposes, the general health questionnaire (Kohlberg and Helar, 1972) and high-risk behaviour questionnaire (Rashid, 2012) were used. Rashid’s High-Risk Behaviour Questionnaire was developed according to the USA questionnaire model. The estimated Cronbach Alpha coefficient for the total 78 questions of this questionnaire was equal to .69. The collected data were analysed by SPSS software and statistical methods including correlation, independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA were used for the data analysis. The results of the study showed that, there was not a significant relationship between high risk behaviour and mental health among Bu-Ali Sina University students (p>.05). Moreover, the results of the study indicated that, there was a significant difference between male and female students in high risk behaviours’ scores and the mean of male students high risk behaviour was significantly more than female students (p<.05). However, no significant difference was observed between male and female students’ mental health scores (p>0.05) except social function scale. Besides, no significant difference was found among students from different ethnical groups (p>.05). The results of the study showed that, gender plays an important role in the prevalence of students’ high risk behaviours.
