Abstract

Spectroscopy methods, as the basic analytical instrumentation methods, are employed in different sciences. They have a wide range of applications in chemistry. Small spectrometers are divided into laboratory portable instruments, field analyzers, and process analyzers. Miniaturized spectroscopic instruments are one class of portable spectrometers. In this area, miniaturized systems have been realized by a significant decrease in the size of components of spectrophotometric systems without giving up their ability, due to development in liquid crystal displays, fiber-optics, laser diodes, and miniaturized grating, and computing systems. This chapter has summarized recent developments in spectrometric miniaturized instruments. Various types of miniaturized spectrophotometric and spectrometers have been reviewed. Furthermore, the emerging application of smartphones for the construction of smartphone-enabled spectrometric miniaturized instruments has been discussed.
