Abstract

Electrochemistry provides very versatile means for the electrosynthesis, mechanistic and kinetic studies. Electrochemical methods are widely applied to the study of reactions of organic and inorganic species, since they can be used to obtain both thermodynamic and kinetic information and are applicable in many solvents.1-3 Among electrochemical methods, it is known that cyclic voltammetry is a powerful technique for investigation of electrochemical reactions that are coupled with chemical reactions.2,3 Recently, we have dealt with the electrochemical oxidation of 4-(Piperazin-1-yl)phenols in aqueous solution.4,5 In this work we would like to report the electrosynthesis of a new derivative of hydroquinone with electrooxidation of 4-(Piperazin-1-yl)phenol (1) in the presence of released piperazine of the structure of electrophile The reaction mechanism is believed to be heterogeneous electron transfer, hydrolysis reaction, Micheal addition reaction, Solution electron transfer (SET) and another Micheal addition reaction (E heterogeneous electron transfer Chydrolysis CMichael-addition E heterogeneous electron transfer CMichael-addition). The present work has led to the development of a facile and environmentally friendly reagent-less electrochemical method for synthesis of new derivative of hydroquinone in aqueous solution at graphite electrode in an undivided cell.
