Abstract

In this study ordered mesoporous alumina (OMA) with pore size of about 5 nm has been used for removal of dye pollutants from binary systems including methyl orange + bromothymol blue, methyl orange + reactive yellow and methyl orange + methyl violet. Derivative spectrophotometry was used for simultaneous determination of the dyes concentrations. The results show that OMA is a good adsorbent for rapid removal of dyes (especially anionic ones) from aqueous solution. Characterization of OMA has been performed by TEM and XRD techniques. The adsorption kinetic data of binary dye mixtures follows the competitive statistical rate theory (SRT) model well.
