Abstract

Today, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted a lot of attention due to their high surface areas, high content of metal centres and impressive topological richness. MOFs based on two metals (bimetallic-MOFs) are a new class of MOFs that have found wide applications such as gas storage, drug delivery, energy storage, and catalyst [1]. The different properties of these porous materials make them a good catalytic candidate for cross coupling, oxidation/reduction, and multicomponent reactions. Many chemical reactions are carried out by Lewis’s acid-based catalysts. Copper complex is widely used as a catalyst in many organic reactions [2]. Nicotinonitriles has diverse important biological activities such as anti-oxidant anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer [3]. In the above work, a Lewis acid was synthesized based on bimetallic-MOFs with high surface area and high pore volume. The above catalyst was used in the synthesis of phenylnicotinonitriles derivatives. The high reaction speed, high reaction efficiency, short reaction time, reducing the production of side products and the ability to recycle the catalyst are among the features of the above work (Scheme 1).
