The imidazole core is present in many molecules with biological activity,1 such as anti-allergy ,2 anti-inflammatory,3 analgesic, antifungal, antimycotic, antibiotic, antiulcerative, antibacterial and antitumor.4 The application of ionic liquids as reaction media for a wide variety of synthetic processes is an area of intense research. Ionic liquids provide a vapor less, thermally stable and reusable ‘green’ solvent for chemical reactions.5 In this paper, there is growing interest in development of clean processes involving green catalysts. Thus, in continuation of our pervious works on the application of reusable catalyst in organic synthesis we decided to investigate the synthesis of 1,2,4,5-tetrasubstituted imidazole derivatives in the presence of ZrO2 as a recyclable green solid catalyst
