Abstract

Background and Aim: Resilience indicates an individual the ability to re-adapt in facing unpleasant circumstances of life and if one is trained in this regard, he would be able to increase his potential tolerance against stress and find better ways of problem solving. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of resiliency skills training in reducing high-risk behaviors of students. Methods: Study method was quasi-experimental and the research was designed by pre-tests and posttests with control and experimental groups. The research included all female high school students of Hamedan province in 2014, of which 15 students were placed in the control group and 15 in the experimental group who were selected randomly. Then, the resilience-training program was administered for 12 sessions, 1.5 hours per week for the experimental group. The tools were the Connor-Davidson Resilience scale (CD-RISC) and high-risk behaviors questionnaire. To assess the effects of the intervention, pre-test and post-tests were given to both groups. Data was analyzed by using Covariance analysis test. Results: Results showed that resiliency skills training were effective in reducing high-risk behaviors of students. Also, the resiliency skills training were effective for high-risk behaviors of violence and substance use in students. Conclusion: Therefore, according to the effectiveness of resiliency skills training program in reducing high-risk behaviors, it is suggested that teachers and educators incorporate resiliency trainings in their curricula in aim of reducing students’ high-risk behaviors.
