Building in context: A study on contemporary architecture in six Iranian cities Due to the declining quality of construction in the historical and intermediate areas of cities, obtaining a guiding framework to reach continuity and creating interconnectedness in these areas is essential. In order to obtain the framework and guiding documents for future constructions in existing urban fabrics , it is necessary to identify, analyze and re-interpret valuable experiences of contemporary architecture. Paying attention to the principle of continuity and also respecting the context are the key indicators in recognising the good practice. Connection with the context, coexistence with natural elements, attention to modern technologies & responding to contemporary living patterns are among the key elements for the success of construction experiences. Deriving a balanced model which respects the context, indigenous architecture and protection of values on the one hand, and creativity, latest technologies and innovation on the other hand, are emphasized principles to draw any guidline for future builders in urban areas.
