چکیده

An investigation of Iranian "Mosque": Architectural tradition of the past and the contemporary trends Saeid Izadi & Mahshid Sehizadeh From the oldest mosques of Iran which are believed to be converted from pre-Islam fire temples, to the most glorious mosques of pre-modern era, the evolution of Persian Mosque has proceeded a path as long as 1200 years, from 8th to 20th Centuries AD . This gradual and contextual evolution has faced an eventual discontinuity by the advert of modernity which unlike European countries, almost happened overnight in Iran after the 1930s. Therefore, this presentation intends to address different trends in the design of contemporary mosques of Iran, while primarily introduces the principles of creating a mosque in different milestones of Iran's history of architecture. Saeid Izadi is lecturer of Architecture & Urban design at BAS University, Iran. He has received his M.Arch from Tehran University and a PhD from Newcastle University, England. His vast academic and professional experiences led to being appointed to the position of deputy minister in Iran Ministry of Roads and Urban Development from 2013 to 2019. One of his responsibilities in private sector during the last years of 1990s was directing a national project of designing more than 100 mosques in different cities of Iran. Recently, he moderated a 10 session lecture series on the subject of contemporary mosques of Iran for the Iranian Academy of the Arts. Mahshid Sehizadeh is also lecturer of Architecture & Urban design at IAU University, Iran. She has received her M.Arch from Tehran University and a PhD from Newcastle University, England. She has more than two decades of working experience in different architectural firms as well as Iran Cultural Heritage Organization and Renovation Organization of Tehran Municipality.
