Abstract

Background: Hyperactivity is one of the most common behavioral disorders that parents, especially mothers, as someone who has first contact with child endangering. Purpose of this study was comparing the mental health of mothers having ADHD children and normal children. Methods: The method of this study was causative-comparative. Population was all mothers of Hamedan city in 1390. 200 mothers of ADHD children and normal children were selected in cluster-random sampling from elementary schools in One district of Hamadan, in two stages. Using Conner (parent form) and SCL-90 questionnaires data was obtained and analyzed using 18-SPSS software. Findings: The results showed there is statistically significant difference between the mental health of mothers having ADHD children and mothers having normal children (P < 0.01). Also, there was significant difference between somatization, obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation and psychotic of mothers having ADHD children and mothers having normal children. Conclusion: This study showed that mothers having ADHD children have lower mental health than mothers having normal children
