Abstract

This research examines the impact of tall buildings on cityscape, so that based on that, both the existing situation of tall buildings in the city can be read and a tool can be provided to improve the quality of tall buildings in cities. Therefore, in this research, after the conceptual examination of the cityscape and also the definition of tall residential buildings, the effects of tall buildings on the cityscape are investigated based on the three goals of aesthetics, meaning, and functionality. The research is a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, which is divided into two main parts based on the research questions. A part of the studies that seeks to find concepts, criteria, methods of evaluation, and review criteria related to the research is based on the analytical-comparative method, and the part that examines the research findings is based on the field study method. It was found that factors such as the effect on the skyline, form, top, color, and height of the tall building, as well as the degree of complexity of the scene, have fundamental effects in terms of beauty. In the visual dimension, dominance (or visibility level) and the impact on the view corridors are the main factors in which things such as the degree of blinding of natural scenery, the size of the corridor, and how it is placed in the view axes are important. The semantic dimensions of tall buildings in the cityscape have differences based on different cultures. Based on the case studies selected in this research, the semantic limits of tall buildings in the cityscape include concepts such as wealth, power and dominance, monotonous and machine life, social superiority of residents, city progress, and such things. It should be noted that these concepts can have differences in different societies.
