Abstract

The catalytic hydro-dearomatization (HDA) procedure is generally used in industry to remove aromatic compounds from fossil fuels. However, high energy consumption and limited effectiveness in removing certain aromatic species are two crucial limitations of the method. To dissolve these problems and improve the procedure’s effectiveness, in this study, we focused on the selective liquid–liquid extraction method using Ionic and deep eutectic solvents (DESs) solvents. As DESs originate from natural sources and can be tailored to specific characteristics, they are widely considered in green chemistry and economically and ecologically sustainable reagents for various chemical and environmental applications. This review focuses on recent studies on the simultaneous extraction of sulfur and nitrogen compounds by Ionic and DES solvents, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of DES extraction processes and to identify new research directions in this field.
