Abstract

Introduction The tumor microenvironment is proposed to contribute substantially to the progression of cancers, including solid tumors. Cancer-Associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are the most abundant components for the tumor microenvironment. CAFs are also becoming therapeutic targets for solid tumors due to their specific distribution in solid tumors and their unique biomarkers. We hope that summarizing CAFrelated studies will help to accelerate the development of CAF-targeted therapeutic strategies for cancer. Methods This study is a review study by searching scientific databases such as Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Embase from 2016 to 2023 by using the keywords Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts, Solid tumors, Targeted therapy, 42 articles related to inclusion criteria were extracted and then analyzed. Results The results of the study indicated that CAFs lead to resistance to anticancer drugs and chemotherapy. Also, CAFs can play a significant role in the progression, metastasis, and migration of tumor cells. Studies have shown that tumor metastasis and drug resistance can be largely prevented by targeting CAFs. Conclusion Today, with the progress and development of anti-cancer treatments and different treatment methods, targeted therapy has found an important place in cancer. And it can be effective in the treatment of solid tumors. CAFs can be a target to fight cancer. By using drugs and tactics that lead to the blocking of CAF markers or its elimination, the treatment against solid tumors can be reliably advanced.
