Abstract

The new diamine 2,2'-(4,4'-(propane-1,3-diyl)bis(piperazine-4,1-diyl))diethanamine (A1) was synthesized by reaction of 2-aminoethylpiperazine and 1,3-dibromopropane. The Schiff base ligand L1 was synthesized from the condensation of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and (A1). Its corresponding Zinc (II) and Cadmium (II) macroacyclic Schiff-base complexes were prepared by reaction of metal ions and L1 in methanolic/ethanolic solution. All products were characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry and spectroscopic methods such as: FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR. The complexes were tested for in vitro antibacterial properties against some Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The complexes had antibacterial properties and in some cases even more than those of Tobramycin and Tetracycline as standards [1-2].
