A Pd(II) Schiff base complex has been immobilized on magnetite nanoparticle (MNP) through a surface modification of Fe3O4 nanoparticle with a Schiff base ligand. Fe3O4 MNPs were prepared by co-precipitation(CP). In the formation of the CP-MNPs, iron (III) chloride hexahydrate (FeCl3, 6H2O), iron (II) sulfate hexahydrate (FeSO4, 7H2O), sodium hydroxide (NaOH), and deionized water were used [1]. The Schiff base organosilane reagent was prepared as follow: 3- aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES) was refluxed with salicyaldehyde in ethanol under N2 atmosphere at 80 C for 3 h [2]. Then a portion of dried Fe3O4 was refluxed in dried toluene with Schiff base organosilane for 10 h. the solid was filtered off and washed with CH2Cl2. Finally, Schiff base complex was prepared by adding a solution of PdCl2 in methanol/ acetonitrile to solid modified Fe3O4. This surface-modified nanoparticle was characterized by various techniques such as TEM, XRD, TGA, elemental analyzer and FT-IR.
