Abstract

Laser ablation in liquid (LAL) has attracted much attention of researchers over the past decades and is considering one of the fastest, cleanest, and promising pathways to produce nanomaterials in as much as it can offer operative solutions to several challenges in the field of nanoscience or nanotechnology. Platinum (Pt) nanoparticles were synthesized by laser ablation in liquid (LAL) technique in deionized water. Platinum colloidal solutions were prepared by using a nanosecond pulsed fiber laser with a fluence of 38.2 J/cm2 and a wavelength of 1064 nm, above the ablation threshold. The optical properties of the colloidal platinum nanoparticles were investigated by UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. The mean size, size distributions, shape, and elemental composition were examined by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Dynamic light scattering (DLS), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). According to the XRD results, the mean crystalline size, crystal structure, and grain size of platinum nanoparticles were calculated. The particles formed in the water were stable, homogeneously spherical, and relatively monodispersed.
