In this paper we report on the synthesis of graphene oxide and Au nanoparticles and the preparation of graphen oxide/Au nanocomposites in three different solvents. The structural properties are characterized using powder XRD and by TEM images. Nonlinear optical properties of all the samples have been studied using the z-can technique. It is shown that the media that surround the nonlinear sample can influence its nonlinear optical properties by their dielecterical nature. The nonlocal z-scan theory has been used to estimate the role of the surrounding medium in changing the samples nonlinear responses.
