Abstract

Effects of electric and magnetic potentials on the vibration response of a functionally graded magneto-electro-elastic smart plate is investigated based on the first order shear deformation theory. The plate is rectangular and simply supported on all edges. Gauss’s laws for electrostatics and magnetostatics are used to model the electric and magnetic behavior of the plate. The partial differential equations of motion are reduced to a single ordinary differential equation by using the orthogonality principle in trigonometric functions. Then, a closed form expression is obtained for the natural frequency of the plate.
