Abstract

Subharmonic response of a magneto-electro-elastic rectangular plate is studied for the first time based on the first order shear deformation theory. Gauss’s laws for electrostatics and magnetostatics along with single-mode Galerkin method and multiple scales method are used to model the plate and to calculate the response. Then, a closed-form relation is obtained for the frequency response of the plate in the subharmonic resonance. Some numerical examples are carried out to investigate the effects of several parameters on the frequency response of these smart plates.
