Abstract

For the first time, the corrosion behavior of Al/B4C/SiC hybrid composites fabricated by accumulative rollbonding (ARB) processes was investigated. The produced hybrid composites which were consisted of 1and 2.5 wt.% of B4C and SiC reinforcement particles by nine ARB cycles showed a homogeneous distribu-tion and strong bonding between particles and matrix without any porosity. In order to characterize thecorrosion behavior of the produced hybrid composites, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)and potentiodynamic polarization in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution were carried out. Moreover, for the betterunderstanding of corrosion resistance of the produced hybrid composites, the EIS and potentiodynamicpolarization tests were carried out on ARBed 1050 Al alloy (which was used as matrix) after 3 and 9cycles. The results of EIS and potentiodynamic polarization curves revealed that employing the ARB pro-cess has led to higher polarization resistance and lower corrosion current density of the produced hybridcomposites as well as 1050 Al alloy.
