A new facile route is proposed for synthesis of γ-Fe2O3/TiO2 nanocomposite. The synthesized nanocomposite was fully characterized by TEM, VSM, EDX and XRD measurements. Use of the synthesized nanocomposite in dye removal was investigated by evaluation of the removal efficiency of Janus Green B, a cationic dye, and Congo red, an anionic dye. Dye degradation ability of the synthesized nanocomposite was investigated under various light irradiation (i.e. sunlight, 254 nm and 365 nm UV light). The results showed that this new TiO2 nanocomposite had improved photocatalytic activity under sunlight irradiation. This indicates that the synthesized nanocomposite could be considered as an efficient photocatalyst in the field of wastewater treatment because of its lower band-gap in the presence of γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles.
